From the page: "First it was a young boy's finger, lost to an ape's bite. Then, it was a veterinarian's arm, bitten off by the jaws of a mislabeled Nile crocodile. The young boy will spend the rest of his life sans a digit, but the vet was luckier. He left a Kaohsiung hospital's ICU Monday, after a long but successful re-attachment process. Then last Wednesday, a 230-kilogram female orangutan busted out of her cage. The great ape flipped over lunch tables and tossed a few scooters around before being shot to sleep with several tranquilizer darts. Newspapers and Web sites across the planet picked up the story, including CNN, USA Today, UK's Metro and many, many more. The Kaohsiung Zoo has become an embarrassment at home and abroad. Members of the foreign press reported on the small size of the orangutan's cage and made other disparaging remarks as to the quality of care the animals at Kaohsiung's "Mt. Longevity" Zoo receive. The criticisms are valid. The zoo should be re-examined by the government and perhaps be put on probation. If the zoo cannot conform to international norms for the treatment of animals and the safety of humans, it should be closed. Better no zoo than a bad zoo."
